INFORMATION FOR ARTISTS

LOCATION
Gallery Jangva is located in the centre of Helsinki on Uudenmaankatu 4-6, entrance through the courtyard.
Opening hours: Tue-Fri 11 am - 7 pm, Sat-Sun 11 am - 5 pm

EXHIBITION SPACE
Two rooms with a total floor area of approximately 81 m2.
The room's height is approximately 3,4 m in the back room
and 2,6 m in the front room.
The gallery is well suited for various kinds of exhibition.

A small sales point sells various artists’ articles ( books/postcards/etc. )

THE USUAL PERIOD OF AN EXHIBITION
The period is normally three weeks, but six weeks exhibitions can also be accommodated.
Hanging and removal times are included in the exhibition time.

THE EXHIBITION RENT
The rent for three weeks is 1350€ ( including 22% VAT ).

The rent includes:

- Posting of 500 invitations to the gallery’s guest list

- Sending a press release to the media and cultural institutions

- Detailing the exhibition on Gallery Jangva's website www.jangva.fi and providing exhibition details to event listings such as:
Taide-lehti, Taide-Art, Galleriaopas

- Distribution of posters around the centre of Helsinki

- Invigilation of the exhibition during opening hours

- Use of the gallery’s audio visual equipment
(video and slide projector, SVHS recorder, DVD player, monitor and S-VHS-C camera)

COMMISSION
The gallery takes a 20 % (including 22 % VAT ) commission on sales of artwork.

THE ARTIST´S RESPONSIBILITIES
- Transporting, hanging and taking down the exhibition
The gallery has a parking space in front of the gallery.

- Hanging materials and other equipment. The gallery has a set of basic tools.

- Printing of posters and the invitation cards and the postage costs of cards to the artist´s own guest list.

- Composing a press release. The press release will be published on Gallery Jangva’s website well in advance of the exhibition and sent out to other media before the invitations are posted.

- Possible insurance; the gallery does not insure works of art.

- Refreshments at the opening of the exhibition.
The gallery has punch bowls, jugs, vases and disposable cups.

- Ensuring that the gallery is left in the same condition as it was found in by 12.00 on the Monday following the last day of the exhibition.

ARCHIVING
- Jangva will document exhibitions in its exhibition and slide archives.
Additional slides can be bought for 1,50 € each, duplicates can be ordered or to have CD 10 €.

- Press cuttings will be collected into the gallery’s own scrapbook.
The gallery would greatly appreciate any reviews of the exhibition the artist can provide, before, after or during the exhibition.

CANCELLATIONS
If either the artist or the gallery cancels an exhibition,
the party responsible for the cancellation is committed to reimbursing the other party according to the exhibition contract.

APPLYING FOR AN EXHIBITION
An Application form (print out) or free-form application which should include:

- An exhibition plan i.e. what the exhibition contains (paintings/photographs/performance/etc.)
- A resume / CV
- Images: slides/CDs /prints/etc and full information about the pieces: name, materials and methods used, dimensions, date. If the exhibition pieces are currently unfinished, please provide us with pictures of earlier works. For media art we request a complete as possible picture of the proposed use of the gallery i.e. written and pictorial material/sketches/ photographs/videos/etc.
NOTE: The use of fire is strictly prohibited both inside and outside the premises.

APPLICATION TIMES
We usually consider applications twice a year,
more information can be found from the gallery itself or from www.jangva.fi.
The exhibition team of Jangva decides which exhibitions are accepted.
