Paintings 23.6 - 11.7.2010 In my art I often combine visual substance with abstract painting that can freely flow on the canvas. The visual effect comes from the ancient cross-stitch pattern of flowers, birds and cats with a bow collar. On the canvas I paint a collage of absurd landscapes, a state between sleep and consciousness. Sparkling joy and all the happiness in life embrace in all its briefness fathomless sadness. What fascinates me at the moment is run wild gardens, secret hideaways, wild flower beds, fountains and waterfalls, funerals of little birds, rose patterned cups, parties, preying animals, growing up, tending and the fear of loss. Despite the disharmony between the motives, the extreme tension with the different ways I work appeal to me tremendously. The splashing way of just throwing the colour on the canvas with a paintbrush as a contrast to explicitly drawn embroidery, the skein of clear lines that in a slow way represent enjoyable silence. The paint itself and evaluation of the result, the mess on the canvas, wandering, the structure of the painting and the merry colours, create an outstanding happiness. I want to thank The Arts Council of Finland for the support for my exhibition.
