JUKKA LEHMUS Paris Berlin Helsinki Photographs 24.4 - 10.5.2009 The pictures on display deal with banality. With the means of black and white photography, the viewer is invited to examine the everyday reality as if it was an unknown landscape. The pictures find their subject matter from chance encounters on the street or “empty”, temporary environments such as construction sites, heaps of waste, billboards and other outdoor advertising. My aim has not been to encourage to view the public urban space with ironic or alienated gaze, but instead to record the surrounding reality as a fascinating and complicated “accumulation” of meanings. These photographs are from the years 2005-2008.
