HEIDI WIKSTRÖM
Photographs
14.7 - 1.8.2004

I photographed last summer in my childhood’s summer place in Kankaapää.
I sought to capture the familiar sights as they once were, at a time that today resides in my memory only as abrupt visions, sentiments and scents. If the picture is left a bit inaccurate, the old log house looks just as it used to back then. The forest looks the same.

Still, nothing is as it was. Should I enter the house, I would encounter electrical lights and strange inhabitants, some of which are the same as before, but unrecognizable. The children, whose playful voices can be heard from the yard are not me and my sister but my own children.

Besides trying to track my early history I also took photos of the present moment which, now in the middle of summer 2004, has already slipped away from me and become past.
